CT scans as preventitive healthcare

I am a firm believer in the use of preventitive health care, annually preformed CT scans are one example of this. The use of CT scans to find a majority of problems in the body has become an extremley effective procedure. The problem is that it is sometimes used as a last resort, and that it is rarely given without some type of precondition that would lead a doctor to believe further examination is crucial.

One reason it is not used as frequently and reguraly as some would like could be due to the costs that go along with having the procedure done. Medical bills are higher than almost any other bills that we reguraly pay for, and although there is medical insurance to cover some of the costs, it can be almost as expensive and very hard for some lower income families to obtain. Partially because the medical feild is a necessity and people will always need medical help at some point in their life, insurance companies, along with facilities and doctors know that they can afford to charge so much for their procedures, like CT scans.

This causes a major problem. Individuals are naturally greedy, and when faced with the unmentionable costs of procedures they become juvenille, willing to risk their lives instead of just paying the medical bills. Also, many doctors know the repructions of having tests like CT scan done and against their better judgment they will sometimes demote to looking at less serious/expensive forms of healthcare instead of having the individuals go directly to the testing labs.

In people spend years of wasted time, money, and research only to continue coming up short, before going to a CT scan for proper dyagnosis. The problem is by this time the patient has wasted numerous amounts of recourses, and in doing so has allowed their condition to worsen. Through relationships i have encountered, i have noticed a multiple of individuals who suffered from cancer and other conditions because they failed to have a CT scan earlier than they did. My husbands mother, for instance, went to the doctor for years with back/nausea problems, and after being misdiagnosed several times she was finally able to recieve a CT scan. The final diagnosis was cancer, but by this time the illness had spread throughout 90percent of her body, was not able to undo the damage that ahd been caused, and eventually died. Had she been scanned and recieved the treatment she needed years prior to when she did, she might have had a chance to survive the illness.

Even though the costs of the procedure are extremley high, the cost of losing your loved one's life from the absence of having this test performed is even higher.

Internet: good or bad?

When contemplating the benefits opposed to disadvantages of the Internet, i would have to agree with Steven Johnson in that the pros definitely out weigh the cons. Even though some people, such as Nicholas Carr argue that the Internet is causing society to change its ways of thinking and gathering new information in a negative way, i believe that its benefits overwhelm its ability to shorten our attention spans.

The Internet offers an enormous amount of information and the ability of the Internet to so quickly gather up this info for our eyes to see within a few seconds notice is extremely beneficial to us. Even though we might not be staying in one spot longer than we would while watching TV or reading a book, we are able to get more information within the time that we are given. I disagree with the theory that claims this adaptation changes our ability to concentrate or length of our attention spans.

Personally i don't have a problem switching back and forth between skimming the web pages on a computer and later watching a two hour biography on TV or reading a lengthy article in the newspaper. i think it all depends on the amount of information I'm wanting on one particular subject and the amount of time i am allowed to find that information. As long as you are engaged and interested about the info that you are learning about then it doesn't matter how you are finding it.

Sometimes the information on the Internet can be misleading, which many of us should know, so usually depending on what occasion the information is being gathered and the importance of its content a person will back it up with details from other resources anyways. Also, because of the Internets ability to bring information to us so directly and quickly we are given the opportunity to find out the latest and most important news and ideas sooner rather than waiting to hear about something on TV, or for it to be published in the paper. This makes us much more aware of our environment.

Georgia's Proposed Immigration Law

Recently the Georgia General Assembly passed an immigration law that has been deemed one of the toughest in the nation. A lot of people in the agriculture industry are worried about how this will affect their business's. The law prohibits business's to deduct labor costs for individuals who cannot provide legal and acceptable documentation of their citizenship. The state has also threatened to penalize any business owners who knowingly hire undocumented workers. Some farm bureaus and agriculture councils disagree with the actions by the state. They believe that it is a national level issue, and should not be be handled on a federal government level, some people have even began to protest and boycott the law.

I personally agree with the state of GA. This has been an ongoing issue for quite sometime. It is unethical and unconstitutional to allow these immigrants who have shown up, without any means of citizenship and are considered illegal, to work on our territory, use our resources, and get paid for doing so by the government; especially when there are hardworking immigrant/citizens who came to the states in hopes of bettering themselves and their families that had to go through years of strenuous legal and governmental processes just to receive the same rights. It is unfair to to let these individuals continue to reek our countries benefits when they nor we consider them apart of our country.

As for the Business owners, who put themselves in this situation by sloping down to these levels just for cheap labor, I believe they should be held accountable for their actions just the same. The economy has been in a decline of the last couple of years and there are plenty of hardworking citizens who are in desperate needs of jobs. If companies would only hire them instead of using illegals that they use for the sake of being able to pocket more money. In addition, aren't these same greedy business owners who hire these immigrants, the same people who go around complaining when their taxes/money are going to help support them, through health care programs, or food supply companies?

In conclusion, i am not prejudice to the idea of having the addition of other cultures in our country, seeing as most all of us were considered immigrants at some point in time. But i do believe that if you are wanting to live and profit from our nations resources that you should go through the right legal processes to receive citizenship before being allowed to do so, otherwise it is unfair to the thousands of other immigrants who did receive legal documentation, and our being socially persecuted for their fellow immigrants mistakes.

Is marriage a long or short term commitment?

    People wonder why divorce rates have been exceedingly higher than they were in the past. Marriage used to be considered a lifelong commitment between to individuals, it also had a much more religious undertone. Today it seems like people are willing to get married to anyone for about any reason. money, Economical status, health-care, unplanned pregnancy, and even the occasional drunken spree are all examples of reasons why people may decide to, "Tie the Knot." So, where exactly does love becomes a key factor in this Holy Sanction.
       There are some individuals who still marry with the actual intent of spending the rest of their life, monogamously, to their spouse, but even the best of marriages can fall apart.

Education: June 15, 2011

My education prior to college was more than adequate to support the demands of my college courses. The houston county school system may not be the best or most advanced school system in the nation but they do a good job.

Motivation

    Throughout my life i have had several things to keep me motivated. The strive to graduate from highschool for instance. It seems like my motivations are dependent on the step of my life that i am in and the goals i am trying to pursue in that particual step. I may not always have just one motivere at a time, sometimes i may have a few at a time. This stage of my life has brought on several factors that are keeping me motivated.
     Right now i am definately driven by the my hopes of  one day pursuing my degree in nursing. I am being pushed to work hard in my classes and spend a great amount of time needed to be put in for them. Several of my previous classmates are also trying to apply for the associates/bachelors programs so i know that there is a great deal of competition and in order to earn my spot i have to be better than my fellow competitors.
     I am also being motivated be my soon to arrive baby girl. She keeps me grounded when i feel like i am having a hard time dealing with struggles that seem to make themselves present in my life. I feel her kick and i know that i havent finished my purpose, and that i still have something more wonderful than to look forward to. These are only a few examples of motivations that are constantly present in my life; they are what keep me focused on what i should be. Without being motivated i would feel like there was nothing left for me to work towards.

Past vs. Future

Due to recent events that have/will soon be taking place in my life i find myself constantly thinking about the past and the future.
     Both of my younger sisters recently passed away in a car accident. The more time that goes by the more i seem to miss them. I sometimes reminisce on the times that we had together. These memories are all that i have left from them and it scares me to think that they too will fade with time. This fear causes me to spend even more time trying to gather everything that i possibly can about them.
     The future also leaves me anxious. I am less than a month away from bringing a daughter into the world. The emotions i feel seem to go to more extremes than my hormones these days. I am overly excited about her arrival and presence in my life, but i am also extremely nervous about the challenges and new responsibilities i will be faced with as a mother.
       I am frightened that the anticipation of my first child overshadowed my ability to grieve over the losses of my sisters, and that the finality of their death is only beginning to sink in. I can only hope that this in turn does not affect how i feel about the birth of my daughter.
